This is a nursery version of the comic verse written by Septimus Winner in 1864 called Der Deitcher’s Dog.
He was a Philadelphian music publisher and critic with a wonderful sense of humour.
You can read the original verse here – it’s very funny!
“Oh Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Dog Gone?” Lyrics
Oh where, oh where has my little dog gone?
Oh where, oh where can he be?
With his ears cut short and his tail cut long,
Oh where, oh where can he be?
