Many of the popular nursery rhymes today are about a profession that no longer exists (like the candlestick maker in Rub-a-Dub-Dub).
So is this nursery rhyme, describing the interaction between a cobbler, a common profession a hundred years ago and its impatient customer.
“Cobbler Cobbler, mend my shoe”Lyrics
Cobbler, cobbler, mend my shoe.
Get it done by half past two.
Half past two is much too late.
Get it done by half past eight.
Stitch it up and stitch it down.
And I’ll give you half a crown.
